It did take a couple of hours for my husband to put it together, but it was worth it. We didn't assemble it with the keyboard drawer because it will be used with a laptop. The side "pocket" is the right size to hold magazines or notebooks. The white and blue box on the bottom is actually a drawer that is large enough to hold standard sized paper and supplies. There is plenty of room on the top surface for writing or using the laptop. I am very happy with this purchase, especially for the price. That said, this is a solid wooden bunk bed at a great price. It is well constructed and goes together easily. Instructions are entirely pictorial, so it helps to lay all parts out first and make sure you know which pieces are which. The bed arrived in two boxes and had only a slight dent on one piece (clearly happened before shipping), but it is a back-side piece so won't show. The paint is slightly powdery feeling to the touch. For daily use I would expect to need to repaint this with a heartier coat of paint before too long. For occasional use, it should be fine. Units can be used stacked or unstacked. My only complaint is that there are only six narrow slats across each bed frame, though there is notched provision for more slats. This means you must use a bunkie-board or framed mattress or plan to cut additional slats to create a stable platform for the mattress. <br /> <br />For the price, this is a very solid and good looking wooden bunk bed.
